Evander was born 1840 in Saint Peters Parish, Beauford, SC. He Enlisted at age 22 in Green's 1st Mounted Militia date unknown. [ Saltketcher's Gorilla's ] Consolidated 19 March 1862 with Capt D.B. Heyward's Co [Marion men of Combahee ] SC Vol's. at Hendersonville, and mustered at Pocotaligo, SC on the 22nd. He is 20 miles from rendezvous. His horse is valued at $175 & equipment at $10. He fought in 2 battles..Coosawhatchie and Bluffton before he was substituted on 11 May 1863 by R.W. Benton. He married a distant cousin [ Clarissa "Clara" Baggett. They are buried in Live Oak Cem. Walterboro, Colleton Co. SC

William was born in June 1835 in Saint Peters Parish, Beaufort, SC. He has 15 items in his archival file. He enlisted in his hometown of Grahamville, Beaufort District SC 27 March 1862 in John H Howard's Co. and mustered at Pocatalico, SC. He had previously served in the 4th Mounted Milita. [Boatwrights]. In Nov 1864 he is detailed to drive cattle.
Battles: Coosawhatchie, Expedition to Bluffton, Johns Island, New Southport, Honey Hill, Siege of Savannah, and Carolina Campaign.

William died 12 Dec 1911 in Ridgeland, Jasper County, SC., We are related thru a distant marriage.

My great-great-great Uncle was private William, J Bensch, born in Prussia/Selesia (near Breslau) 1841 he lived in Charleston South Carolina.
Enlisted at Sulivans Island, SC, April 5, 1862, at age 21 as a private in the 3 South Carolina Cavalry Co. G (German Hussars), this company was successively designated as Captain Cordes Company, South Carolina Volunteers.

At the time he was taken by the enemy (Savannah, Ga., December 2, 1864) he was a bugler.

Furnished transportation from Hilton Head, SC, to New York with Steamer “Fulton”, February 1865.

I lost the trace after the furnished transportation!
Burial site is unknown.
I look for descendants! About each information I am pleased.
